ERA partnered up with long-time donor Shell Canada to fulfill 21 families’ dreams last week. Terry Gottenbos, an employee at Shell Canada reached out to ERA in search of 21 laptops to help fulfill the needs of some young members’ of the 4-H Club’s families. Terry is a volunteer leader at the West Carstairs 4-H Club in Alberta.
4-H Alberta inspires, educates, and develops members who are outstanding rural and urban youth, leaders, and engaged citizens. Members learn to do by doing dynamic projects, programs and community service. In honoring their rural roots, they continue to recognize the importance of food and agriculture in Alberta.
The program Terry to helping with begins each year in mid-October and runs through to mid-June. The 4-H Program offers 30+ different types of projects, although in their club they have participated in 6 different projects in recent years (i.e. Market Beef, Beef Heifers, Market Lamb, Canine, Carcass, and Communications). Depending on the interest the specific projects can vary from year to year.
These laptops will go to each family to assist the members in completing their project record books, preparing their compulsory communication speeches, creating presentations and to complete the necessary research to maximize their project specific research throughout the year.
Speaking with Terry at the West Carstairs 4-H Club he expressed, “This is fantastic. The families will be so happy. What a great organization!”
