The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) is a non-profit organization founded in 2004 to address the growing problem of e-waste and the increasing ‘digital divide’. ERA has offered simple solutions to help individuals and organizations prevent operational equipment from premature destruction. With a focus on recovery, refurbishment and reuse, ERA continuously supplies charitable groups with donated IT equipment while securely managing the retiring IT assets of organizations and individuals across Canada.
We believe that reuse before recycling is critical in managing the waste created by computer hardware, and by offering industry leading data destruction for all equipment we receive, we have securely re-purposed hundreds of tons of equipment. Because not everything ERA receives can be reasonably purposed, we have partnered with certified recycling organizations to process equipment that has reached the end of its productive life.
This year marks our 15th year anniversary, and as we take inventory of what we have accomplished together with our network of businesses, communities, and non-profit partners, we can’t help but be proud. We have helped thousands of charitable organizations nationwide with the gift of technology. From having access to IT devices, they have been able to create jobs, improve the organization’s online presence, help assist students when doing schoolwork and build a better life for individuals.
We would like to take this moment to thank each and every one of our donors over the past year. Your donations not only provided many families and individuals with access to laptops and computers but you helped lessen the impact electronic waste has on our environment. To celebrate this profound anniversary, we have created a 1 year service for our clients and the public. This service is called “SWAP4SHRED”, this allows individuals and companies to trade their laptops or computers in and receive a free shredding service (1 laptop equals 1 shredded hard drive).
